View from the Cypress Switchback

This past weekend I took my first trip up to Cypress mountain. At the switch back I stopped to take in the view over looking the Lions Gate Bridge and the entrance to Burrard Inlet. I watched another photographer who had set up a photo shoot of a model and had studio lights that were powered by a generator. The morning turned into a great snowboarding day.

Fireworks over English Bay

August 3rd Fireworks

On August 3rd I went to watch the fireworks on English Bay. In the past I have been one of the lucky people who got to see them up close and personal from a boat. This year it did not work so the mission was to photo them. At ten o’clock they started and the crowd on the beach did their usual Ooooohhs and Awwws. I’m not sure if they were the most spectacular I have ever seen but it was a very nice evening to be out and enjoying Vancouver at it’s best. For more photos check out my link at Fireworks

Beach Volleyball

On the July long weekend I went down to Kits beach and took some photos of beach volleyball action. This was the first time I have shot the sport and it was alot of fun. Amazing athletes in heated action. Check out the rest of the pics at Beach Volleyball

English Bay mayhem

When the temperature sneaks above 20 degrees in Vancouver and its a Sunday English Bay becomes a mecca for vessels of all shapes and sizes. In front of the Jericho Sailing Center you can spot sailing dinghies, kayaks, pleasure crafts and ships. And on this one particular Sunday a lone stand up paddle boarder seemed to be getting lot of attention. It seems she did not have her PCOC card with her, ahh just kidding she forgot to put on a life jacket before heading out into the bay. The water is pretty cold out there so even though the air temperature is warm that water is still very cold.

Scotia Bank Half Marathon Vancouver 2011

18KM Water Station

On Sunday I went down and took some photos of the Scotia Half Marathon at the 18km water station. Instead of just taking shots of the participants running I thought I would throw in a little hydration action.

While driving down this beautiful road with a river and trees on one side I came upon this yard that housed a life time of mankinds materialism.

Muskrats sunning themselves

This photo was week 2 of my Fall to Winter project. It was the middle of the week at the Regina Sailing Club on Last Mountain Lake. I saw this muskrat out on a rock on a very windy late September day. I quickly shed my clothes and walked into the water waist deep trying not to disturb this muskrat. As it turned out their were actually three sun bathers on this rock.

Boundary Bay Viewpoint

Today I took a drive along the Ladner Trunk road past the Boundary Bay airport. I had heard there are a lot of eagles in this area. I found many young eagles along this road sitting in the trees. This one I found perched in the bog along the dike.

Chasing the Light Week 1

It was Sept 21, 2001 when I started a project that was inspired by Jim Brandenberg. What he did was take one photo per day for a whole season. My version of this project was to take one photo a week from the first day of fall to the first day of winter. Things started out pretty good with the fall colors and all but it became very hard during the last few weeks to get inspired by the prairie winter. I missed my project objective by a couple of weeks. Things have changed since that project came and went. Film cameras went out and digital cameras came in. I have come a long way equipment wise since my 35m Pentax camera of 2001. Over the next few weeks I will once again attempt to take one photo per week till the first day of summer.

Since the work I did on my last project was only in film I will reproduce those original prints digitally and post them to compare the changes of the last decade.
